Catching Light
This week has been a mix of work, family, and a little paint under my fingernails. My daughter’s been under the weather, so there have been a couple of doctor visits, but also extra time together, a few car rides, quiet talks, small moments that matter more than they seem.
In the studio, I’ve been chasing a hummingbird. Not the real kind, though sometimes I wish one would dart past my window, but the one on my canvas. Its feathers are somewhat tricky shifting from violet to red to green in a flash, and trying to capture that shimmer has been both frustrating and fun. Every brushstroke feels like a little adventure, as if I might catch the light just right this time.
What I love about hummingbirds is how impossible they are. Tiny, bright, always in motion, but somehow they hover like magic. That feels a little like life this week, not perfect, not still, but alive and colorful.
